Project: Hands On Children's Museum
Location: Olympia, WA
Architect: The Portico Group
Brief:

Rubenstein's was excited to be chosen as the flooring vendor for the Hands On Museum's new three story facility. The vision of the museum is to provide children, and their families an experience that incorporates equal parts learning, playing, and amazement. Rarely does a project present so many opportunities where the flooring becomes not just art, but an integral learning tool in this experience. The designers with The Portico Group out of Seattle, chose linoleum, hardwoods, carpet tile and rubber sheet flooring, using a bright pallet of colors to create dozens of interactive and playful environments. Our installation of the rubber flooring, in particular, took us through forests, rivers, under tugboats and tree stumps. At the base of the large slides coming down from the second floor, we used EcoRomp cushion recessed under the EcoSurfaces roll rubber, so no little heads will get bumped. All of our floor installers worked tirelessly, and they were themselves true artists and professionals. The Hands On Children's Museum, and an inspiring number of volunteers have created something special here - for ALL ages to enjoy, and we were delighted to participate. We can't wait to return this spring to carpet the treehouse.
